Conservation Efforts and Sustainable Practices

UCAPA has been instrumental in promoting sustainable fishing practices.

For example, in response to the return of salmon to the Clyde and obtaining the salmon lease from the Crown Estates Scotland, UCAPA immediately imposed conservations zones and a ten-year moratorium of salmon fishing. This action, we believe, has ensured the sustainability of the migratory fishery.

This has also been applied on the river Nethan where UCAPA also hold the salmon lease. There is currently no migratory fishing allowed on this important Clyde tributary which we hope will help enhance the Clyde salmon stocks.

With our wild brown trout, bag limits have been applied along with lower and upper size limits. In so doing, this policy, along with encouraging catch and release, has not only respected the ecological balance of the river but has significantly improved the quality of the fishings.
